Easter Sunrise Service

Bright and early our people woke us up. It was dark, and neither of us are used to getting up these days in the pitch dark. It was 5:00. Even though we'd have liked to have kept on sleeping, we're good dogs and we complied. We went about our normal morning routine... harnesses on... a few good stretches... a nice walk outside. But this morning, instead of coming straight inside for our breakfast, our people bundled us up in the backseat of the car... where we always ride. We each got our pawprint blanket draped over us, and then a second layer of Nina's green and gold (school colors!) fuzzy blanket. We were off on an adventure! Mom drove... and within ten minutes we were parking... at the Red Rocks Amphitheater in the Red Rocks Park in Morrison, Colorado. It's an awesome place. Under any conditions.

This morning the conditions were dark, with low lying clouds, fog and a tiny bit of drizzle. But those conditions weren't enough to keep thousands of worshipers away from the annual sunrise Easter service. This was the 62nd year for the event. The skies were completely overcast, and that prevented a colorful sunrise (the seats face east), but it didn't seem to matter much to the approximate 10,000 people in attendance. (We stayed in the car, under our blankets. It was warm, and we knew we'd be back under better weather conditions. The park is a great place to hike around.)

We promised photos... here they are.
(Most of them are thanks to 9News.)
(Mom's battery pack went dead.)

On the stage

The light at about 5:45 AM
The amphitheater was already filling up.

This was taken from where Mom and Nina were sitting.
On a clear day you might be able to see the skyline of Denver.

Bright flood lights were on until the beginning of the service.
Red rocks like this are on both sides of the amphitheater.

It started to lighten up.
White doves were released.
They were beautiful as they flocked and flew.

Some of the doves landed and roosted on the rocks surrounding the amphitheater.

This was actually artificial light on the rocks.
Mom and Nina never saw the sun.
But it didn't matter.
It was a beautiful morning.

And we were waiting - actually sleeping - when they came back to the car.
It will be a really nice day for us.
(We hear the Easter bunny may have treats for us.)
We hope it is an equally good day for you.

Happy Easter
Jake, Miss Fergi and our people
