I'm a Birthday Boy

We just couldn't go to bed
without my Birthday Party.

We're leaving at the crack of dawn
But birthdays are meant to be celebrated
ON the special day.

So
Even though the Yorkie pups had gone to bed
The rest of us squeezed in some celebration.

Winston and Charles had been looking over treats and pressies all day.

And while they watched
I snatched a peanut butter treat right out from under their noses

And then enjoyed a frozen peanut butter treat.
Or two or three.

But I know parties are for sharing.

And it was nice having Zoe here to celebrate with me.

She had as much fun as I did.

Even Fergi joined us
with the coercion of some treats.

It was a good time.

And one of my favorite parts?
Opening pressies.

And then playing tug with Zoe.

It was a good party.
A midnight party.
Only to soon collapse into bed
and wait for our early morning departure to Wyoming.

We'll try hard to get some pictures of our National Park Adventure
It's sure to be fun.
Five dogs and four people in one vehicle.

Dogs Rule.

Pee esS
Thank you ALL so much
(and Our Girl thanks you too)
for all the well wishes
and your understanding about our seeming absence.

You guys are all the greatest
and you made my birthday special.
Really really special.

My tail's been wig wagging all day.
It's a happy feeling and the enthusiasm seems to rub off all around.
For that
EVERYONE says "Thank you!"

See ya in a few days!
We're off to hunt bears!

Good Days at Our House

Oh Boy.

We've been gone for a while.
But we've been trying to keep up just a little with the events around blogland.
Some of them very sad.
Some of them worrisome.
Some of them a balance of good.

We hope our friends know we've not forgotten them.
Not at all.
We've been here.
Just in the background.

There has been a lot of coming and going at our house.
Just before our family arrived
A Sweet Little Wheelie who'd been staying with us for a while
Left to make her way across the pond to her new home.

It was sorta sad to say goodbye.
I got pretty attached to her.
(I sure hope she'll stay in touch.)

Now
Wednesday's my birthday.
My second birthday with my family.

I'm five now.
I feel pretty special.
And I know the day is going to be a good one.

But this year it's ALSO my Girl's Very Special Time.

And I've been sharing the special attention with her and everyone else.

It's okay with me.  It fact it's good.
It has meant a lot more of a lot of things for me.
And for Fergi.

And one of the best has been all the company who came to celebrate with My Girl.
Our Gramma.
Our Auntie.
And their three dogs.
Chloe. Andy. And Zoe.

Someday we'll share some details.  And pictures. We promise we will.

But for now, if you're interested,
We'd like for you to see some shots of Our Girl's Big Days.

Her Graduation and the Party that we had to celebrate it.
(A few families have asked that we share some pics.
So here they are.)

Click to play this Smilebox greeting: Graduation Memories
It was all great fun.

We're so proud of Our NinaGirl.
AND now she is HOME for the summer!

The summer which is about to begin.
In a big way!

(We're headed ... all of us ... five dogs and four people ...
to the Tetons and Yellowstone National Park!)

Right now we're taking bids on who is riding where in the car.

I've called shotgun.
But I don't think I'm gonna get it.
I'll let you know.
Soon.
I hope.

pomp and circumstance

We are feeling very learned in this household.

And a bit tired.
Even the younger ones who live here are a bit tired.

We're told Our Girl's Graduation on Friday was fabulous
and we know first hand
the Celebration today on Saturday was amazing
(with us to preside over the kitchen counter
all was in good hands.
Plus we met some great new two-leggeds
and found ourselves to be quite the subject of admiration and conversation.)

But now?
It's time to rest.
Just for a couple of days
Until a new Adventure arises.

Waggin' Wonderful Distractions

It may seem like it
but
We're not really turning our backs on anyone.

We're just a bit distracted these days.

ALL of us are a bit distracted.

And some of us are a bit buried in all the gazillion things to do.
(That's our cousin Chloe.
Gramma's Yorkie Girl.
She's a WonderDog.
Fighting and surviving canine cancer.
Months and months after her initial diagnosis.

We think we know why.
At least partly.

We think she wanted to be part of the celebration this May.
And she IS part of it.
Right in the middle of it.
And she's loving it as much as we all are!)

 Life is Good.
Really really Good.

Family has arrived from Florida.
Two two-leggeds
and three four-leggeds.

And we're all having a good time.
Together.

By the way.
Our Girl's Graduation is this Friday.
At 2:00 PM MDT.

If you'd like to attend

Everyone is invited!
We'll be the proud ones sitting in the front rows.

NinaGirl will be the petite one
Walking across the stage with a great big smile!

In the meantime
We're trying hard to get to our friends' blogs to read them
But we'll admit straight up
We're not getting much of a chance to comment.

Like we said
We're just a wee bit distracted.
In a waggin' wonderful way.

Godspeed to Two - Seen with the Heart

But the eyes are blind. One must look with the heart.
~Antoine de Saint-Exupery

We've seen with the heart,

and now, because we've known, it's a sad day.

Our mighty British wire fox terrier friend, Jackson,
with whom Old Soul rubbed noses just a few short weeks ago
Has left for the Bridge.

Jackson was accompanied there by Digby,
His continental friend, a Polish Lowland Sheepdog, living with his family in France.

Both were called to be God's angels and new stars in the sky.

We well up in tears today.

Sad for their families.
Sad about the recognition that our four-legged family members live too short a time.
Sad knowing that an entire community grieves.

"Ever has it been that loves knows not its own depth until the hour of separation."

~Kahil Gibran

It helps only to remember

“We enjoy warmth because we have been cold.
We appreciate light because we have been in darkness.
By the same token, we can experience joy because we have known sadness.”
- David Weatherford

These little dogs brought so much to our homes and our hearts.

Please, if you haven't already, stop by and leave their heartbroken families
A message of tenderness.

With Love
Jake and Fergi and the Whole Family

(We will probably still be absent for a while.
We are reading blogs as we can
but not finding the time to write.
Please understand.)
