Home on the Range

What's up?

Me?

You want me?

OK
Let me get in character.

What's Fergi doing?
She's daydreaming about the chuckwagon

We're both in worlds of our own.

Someone
In the background
is crooning
♫ Home Home on the Range ♫

OK
This is as good as it gets.

We're ready
Take our Picture.

By the way
Do we get some Buffalo Jerky when we're done?

If you asked us
We'd really like to go wrangle up a herd of Deer

YeeeHawwww!
Gettalong little Doggies!

(We see them down there.)

What?
We're not Wranglers?
Just cute Wires?

Oh well.

We're Happy
Really Happy

Happy Halloween Paw'dners!

Watch out for Spooks and Goblins
Ghosts and Ghouls
Stay close to Home
Have fun playing Tricks
and
Don't try not to eat too many Treats.

Tons of WildWestWigWags
Prickly Paws Jake
(recallin' those pun'kin stickers from last weekend)
and
Belle Star Fergs

Pee esS
We think we're going on another Friday Hike.
We'll tell ya all about it next week!

Us Pups and the Pun'kins

When we were out and about last Weekend
with OurGirl
Up Northeast where Colorado flattens out into Farmland and Prairie
Somethin' caught my Eye
and called my Name

NinaGirl said it was a Pun'kin Farm
and suggested we go pickin' pun'kins at dusk that night

When the time was just perfect for that kind of Adventure.

So we did.

And it was Perfect.

Can ya see the Mountains to the West?
With the Clouds hovering over them?

We were in a field lookin' at them.
Oooo'ing and Awww'ing
(We never ever get tired of the View.)

Anyhow
We set off Exploring
Poking our way through the mostly-harvested Field.

Sniffing them All

Looking for the PerfectPun'kin

And you know what?
It was mostly fun.

All except for one Problem.

Can you see What's Wrong with this Picture?
This collage of WeightBearingExtremities?

THEY had on their wellibobs.
Cute Fun Warm Comfy
And Rubber.

Us?

Well
Those SpinyPricklyStickers HURT our TenderUnprotectedPaws

But we didn't let a little thing like that stop Us
'Cause we're getting to be ToughLittleTerriers.

So.  On with the Story
Back to the Reason for being there on this MostAmazingEvening

OurGirl consulted with Us

Making a VeryImportantDecision

and
Satisfied and Smiling
We picked the MostPerfectPun'kins

(That's one of NinaGirlie's really good friends
Can ya tell they're happy?)
While
Later
Back at the Ranch
Fergi reminisced

and I played

Ready for the Next Adventure.

It really is a great Time of the Year.

Good Things Come to Those Who Wait

We did things in reverse this Weekend.
(It's always good to change Things up a bit.)

Instead of Her coming to visit Us
We went to visit OurGirl

It's a much longer Story than this
With even more Adventures
But this was OneOfOurFavoriteParts.

We rode, all buckled up and nice and cozy
From OurGirl's Campus
to a ReallyCoolPlace called the Big Thompson Canyon.

(It's a beautiful, famous and sort of infamous Place.
There was a HUGE flood through it in 1976.
Lots of people died.
Some were never found.
If you are interested.)

Anyhow

We drove through the "narrows" at the mouth of the Canyon
(We could've gone a lot further ... onto more ReallyCoolPlaces
but we didn't have time.
This time.  They tell us we'll go back.)
The Canyon is a winding, steep Gorge formed by millions of years of the River's Erosion.
Rock Formations all around us have been tip-tilted almost 90° by the movement of the earth.

Moma was busy driving.
OurGirl snapped some pictures
(and we borrowed a couple from the internet
'Cause it was just a little hard to stop and use the camera.)

The Walls got really steep
and then
Quick as can be
Moma pulled across the highway
Smack into this Spot.

The name pretty much says it all
We'll let you get an up-close View
Outside

and in

Jams and Jellies
Ciders and Juices
Syrups and Butters
Salsas and Jerkies and Dried Fruit Strips

And Pies.  Lotsa Pies.

So much from which to choose!
And we knew they wouldn't come out Empty Handed.

Let's see.
We think she should get that One
Top rack on the left hand side
Please.

Yes!  Very Good!

But!  Hey!  No!
Don't leave it in the back of the Car!

We told them we were sure they had plastic Forks in the Shoppe.

And we were Right!

Awww
Yummers!
We knew they wouldn't let us down.

Good Things do come to those Good Dogs who wait.
(That'd be Us!)

We think we like this.
Going to see OurGirl sometimes.

Yep.
It was a lot of fun.
Yummy, too.
And we think we'll be doing it More Often.

Not Just Another Coupl'a Cute Booties

We get comments about about our mild Temperaments all the time
and we take them as Compliments.

It's true that we're sorta exceptionally laid back
quiet calm mellow relaxed easy-going
Wire Fox Terriers.

We can't really offer a good Explanation as to why.

It may be our Nature
It may be our Environment
It may be our History

It may be that the TypicalTerrier in us
is gonna come out slowly
over Time
with daily Development of Trust and Confidence.

Really
It doesn't matter.

We are who We are
(and Moma loves Us so)

But
It's true

Our moma notices each and every little Change and new Behavior in Us
and mostly that's a Good Thing
('cause we get slathered in Attention and Cuddles when we do something new)

Which we do.
New.
On at least a weekly basis.

There's Jake.

The somewhat shy and still often intimidated
Gentle Fella.
Who loves virtually everyone
and
Who adores lying by the front door watching for Friends and Critters
Only to wag his tail and brighten his eyes.

Until this week.

When
Something captured his Attention
and he BOLTED down the passage
BARKING at the top of his lungs
PROTECTING his household
and
ALERTING Moma
(for the first time in the two plus years he's lived here)
that SOMETHING deserved attention.

(It was invisible.  Moma never found it.)

Now
Mind you
He's only done that Once
but last night he did awaken in the middle of the Night
Growling at some SpookyOutsideNoise
Waking Moma and Being a WatchDog
(only to soon roll over and fall back into a sound restful Slumber)

OK

So

It's true

Moma had to help us reconstruct this Picture
(and it was honestly easy to do with the laser pointer ...
that will always provoke a good Run from Jake)
but here's a Visual
So you can better imagine the Scene

A wirey laid-back Boy in Action
With a VeryCuteHiney.

Then there's me
Fergi.

The still very cautious and easily threatened
Sweet Princess (blush)
Who loves her DogBed and Moma's BigBed
Those being the only places that anyone can approach me
For much loved Cuddles, Pets and Kisses.

As much as I love those places
and as comfortably and easily as I'll go to them in the daytime
I have a rather compulsive Routine at Night.

(Until last night)

I will only go to bed (on the BigBed ... where else?)
by first running (tail up and happy)
around the dining room table (always counterclockwise)
with Moma "chasing" me
Then
Bee-lining it to the Bed
Happy and Confident.

Moma has tried and tried to invite me up on the Bed otherwise
but I've refused
 (Until last night.)

So
You've guessed it!

Last night I jumped right up there on the BigBed
Right in front of Moma
Before she even turned it down
and
I waited
Tail up and Happy
for my VerySpecialSpot

I'm not sure who was happier.

So
Like Jake
Moma tried to help me reconstruct the Scene.

She shooed me into the bedroom
with the temptation of Treats
and a BoyDogBrother on my heels.

She got Lucky
and captured a pic of my Bootie
and my flip flap flying doggie ears.

So see?

We do move
and rock and roll
Sometimes
and we shake our Booties
On Occasion.

Briefly
Fleetingly
Momentarily

and Happily

And in yet another way
We know
Life is SoVeryGood!

Fortuity? Or Opportunity?

We could have predicted.

Moma took away all of our furs a couple of days ago
and what happens?

The temperature dropped on Tuesday
and the first rain we've had in months
fell from the sky.

No Problem

 We've got good Coping Techniques

and WarmCozyBlankets.

The morning was amazing
but we do have to admit ...

We were really happy when the sun came back out today.

It's all good for the Spirit
and we're soaking it right up.

Opportunities.
We try to make the best of each and every one of them.

(Speaking of which ... it seems some good smells are coming from the kitchen.)
We'll be back!

On October Twelfth

We asked them to deliver a message to Angel Poppy
Over the Bridge.

You see
She just had a Barkday
and they've been thinking about her and sending special thoughts to her.

We asked them to ask her to find our Grampa
The grampa we never got to meet
(We think maybe he's hanging out with their daddy.)

He's our moma's daddy
(She's the little one ... in his arms ... a long long time ago.)

The daddy who was a great Father
Who provided so incredibly well for his Family
and filled them with Love
and Fun
and gobs and gobs of fond Memories

(She's the little one, again,
on vacation in Colorado a gazillion years ago.
He's the one on the left.)

He's the one who loved to have Fun
to enjoy the Simplest Things in Life
and the one who taught his Family to do the Same.
To Laugh
To Smile
To Love
and to Care Deeply for One Another.

We've heard lots of stories about him.
All about how he loved his little dogs

All of them.
Equally.

Joli

Molly ...  Moma's wirey one
and
Mitzi ... the family parti-colored poodle

and squirmy Chloe.

All those doggies are across the Bridge now.
With that man who was Moma's daddy and would've been our grampa.

He died on October 12
Nine years ago
Suddenly
Quickly
Right after telling our Auntie "I love you"
as they talked on the telephone.

Moma misses him terribly
and she sometimes still cries

But she knows
He's with all the doggies he knew during his Lifetime
plus a whole lot more
and they are All enjoying his Gentle Touch
and Kind Words
His Soft Smile and Tender Love.

And someday
We'll get to meet him
and it will be wonderful.

We know we'll know him right away
He'll be the one watching and waiting for us.

'Cause Love waits
and Love lasts Forever.

On this his 70th birthday ...

Not Just Another Friday

It's that Day again.
(We don't look VeryEnthusiastic about it.
But we are.)

Why?

'Cause it's that VerySpecialDay.

The Day of the Week
That we most enjoy.

The Day when we travel up the Mountain
to explore another Trail
Hike another Path
Celebrate another Morning
in our Colorado foothills

HikeDayFriday!

We headed west and south today
to Pine Valley Ranch Park
Near where OurGirl spent the Spring and Winter
(Remember?)

And it was Wonderful

Today

A few hours later
We returned Home
with Dirty Paws

and
Tired Legs

and
Happy Hearts

What better than to put our feet up

to stretch out in the sun

and to rest

Recalling the MostWonderfulMorning
and looking forward to the next.

Hoping it's soon.
(Tomorrow would not be soon enough!)
